    During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, numerous collections of riddles and word puzzles were published, including Demaundes Joyous (), A Little Book .   There are some who claim that the nursery rhyme Oranges and Lemons rightly belongs to St Clement’s Eastcheap and not to St Clement Danes. The Demaundes Joyous is an early sixteenth-century attempt at a joke book, providing corkers such as: How may a man know or perceive a cow in. "Demaundes Joyous" is the name of a book of English jokes, in riddle ("demaunde") form. Any entertainment, and especially performance entertainment, is demanding of one, but there is great joy in doing it.
